Ingenuity, Exhibit B
Wartime transportation problems have been conquered by these three boys who can cover plenty of territory on one-half gallon of gasoline. An old washing machine motor is propelling power for this home-made scooter, from they get 25 miles on two quarts of gas at 25 miles an hour. The boys made the frame, and the wheels are from old wheelbarrows. The three Bryant junior high boys, shown in the machine, are, left to right, James Richards, 13, 3608 Stevens avenue; Frank Berg, 14, 3625 First avenue S., and Kay Scott, 14, 3513 Blaisdell avenue, owner and builder of the car.
More ingenious transportation from Miss Beulah Taylor’s scrapbook.
25 miles on two quarts of gas is 50 miles per gallon; not bad, considering that most cars in the ’40s got 15 to 20 miles per gallon. Though there doesn’t seem to be much cargo space in this model, and nary a cup holder.
